This is a record of the mundane and not so mundane daily happenings that color my life on Gabriola Island.

Last Thursday evening we went to visit Paul & Mary-ellen in Clearwater. It was good to see them and their new place.
Friday night the boys had a costume dance in Vernon and we took the girls out to Denny's for dinner~~Whoo-hoo!!
Yesterday Ron and I attended the Valentine's Day dance at church. It was adults only and Jim & Linda joined us. Ron & I were chosen to be one of the 8 couples to play a Newlywed type of game (we came in second), There were some puzzled looks when we both responded to "Where did you go on your first date?" with "We didn't have a first date."
We had a really nice time except for the little phone call we received at about 9 and heard about the "learning experience" the kids were involved in. See, one of the boys decided that the best way to dispose of old left-over stew is to flush it (Even AFTER being told no). Well, the toilet took exception to this treatment and backed up a bit. After much plunging, experimentation and committee-type problem solving activity the problem remained. So today the main layer in the incident got to learn the ins and outs of plumber's snakes, toilet removal and wax ring replacement. After retrieving about 3 cups of veggies from the toilet, I think he has a whole new respect for that particular piece of porcelain. The repair was completed minutes before the 8 guests we had invited for dinner showed-up. (whew!!!!)
We had Ross & Robin, our home teachers and their families over for "Mexican" tonight. I think everyone enjoyed the food, and we enjoyed the conversation.
We had another light flurry early today which promptly melted off this afternoon That's the report for now . . .

Elizabeth and I built a little diorama for her language arts class this morning. It looks like the kids are finally making forward progress in their studies instead of sinking or just treading water (for today, anyway!).
Yesterday I managed to finish the second bonnet Kaili will need for trek and we got Elizabeth in to meet her doctor for the first time. Our doctor is very personable and is from South Africa; her accent is very much like Heather's (A Slow Read).
This is the position the cats took up the other day, Isis is just out of frame stretched across the top of the bed and Aurora is in her usual spot, next to the bed, hiding in the closet curtain.
Not much else new to report here. . .

Kaili and I made this cake on Friday, it was chocolate, covered in marshmallow fondant and chocolate butter-cream. The hearts were made from poured sugar. Everyone really liked this fondant and I found it really easy to work with.
On Friday I spoke with my program adviser at school, and we decided that I will get my A.S. degree in June. It doesn't really mean much, but at least it will help me to feel like I'm making progress towards my B. Sc.
I taught the Relief Society lesson yesterday. It was pretty heavy doctrine (Elijah and the sealing keys) and I felt totally out of my depth, but I guess I muddled through OK.
Our Mona Vie business is slowly beginning to pick up steam, and it is really exciting to think we may be able to improve the health (& maybe wealth) of those we are closest to.
The weather has been early spring-like here, cool, slushy, mucky days with frozen nights.

Isn't she so innocent looking? Sweet even. . . (I know why, and you will too in a minute!)
After art lessons when I stopped to get gas, the girls went in and bought themselves some sweet treats for after lunch. Elizabeth bought a package of "gummie" stuff. . .frogs, worms, berries and etc.
After we had lunch, I drove up to get Ron from work and he hadn't eaten yet, so we stopped for a quick bite. We had just sat down when my phone rang and I was met with an awful wailing noise. I finally was able to get Kaili to come to the phone as an interpreter. Apparently Aurora has a real sweet tooth and not only found, but consumed Elizabeth's entire gummie stash. She was ready to string this poor dear up today. Ron suggested Ellie follow the dog around with a poop-scoop for awhile, but Elizabeth didn't see anything funny about that at all and the wailing noises got louder again for a bit. Fortunately all is calm for the minute and both dog and child seem to have weathered this storm.
Nothing else new to report, I went to my first Brigade meeting with St. John Ambulance the other night. They have quite an interesting history and I think it will be fun learning about it.
The weather has been grey, but fairly warm, so the snow is dirty and slushy again. . .

I have been busy, can't you tell. As you can see from the "action shot" to the left, Isis is really broken hearted that I stay home so much these days.
Friday evening Ron and I played taxi to a few folks. Elizabeth attended a birthday party while Kaili went tubing at the local ski hill with the youth from church. The boys stayed at home to work some of the studies that had been neglected lately.
Saturday night, we went to see "Taken", it was another violent, action-packed type of show. I thought it was very good.
Today I read Stephanie Meyer's "The Host". It is more science fiction genre than the "Twilight Series" and I think I enjoyed it even more than I did those books. I wasn't sure to root for the humans or the aliens. . .
We got a light dusting of snow last night, so it looks clean and white outside today, instead of mucky and slushy as it has been.
